I have developed my negotiating skills working at Mace. Having exposure to experienced managers has helped me in tender, variation and final account meetings. Walking regularly on site with construction managers has also helped me with my technical knowledge not just on site but at university.
I enjoy that the degree is part time, so we are getting a very good balance of being on a construction site and learning from the textbook at university. We also have good training sessions on offer at Mace and it gels well all being together.
The programme is very organized. I feel the talent and development team are always keen to know how I am doing on site, as well as organising training sessions and site visits to ensure our learning is never at a standstill.
The door is always open to contact anyone in Mace which is a real boost for Apprentices because we never feel awkward asking for help. There is always someone to help with all aspects of work.

In my job role, we learn 'how' to do the work. The subjects I learn at University help me understand 'why' we do an element of work on our projects. It also helps us understand the different types of construction.
Every quarter our team takes part in an external activity. This can be a variety of things, sometimes it will be a spin class or a 5km run and other times it will be a triathlon. There are plenty to choose from so you always have something to choose from.
