To take blood pressure, temperature and weight of the patient, assess for signs of fluid overload or infection, assess if arterio-venous fistula is working sufficiently, needle heamodialysis needles, prepare heamodialysis machine, connect/disconect patients with kidney failure to/from heamodialysis machine, look after them during the treatment, administer oral medication under supervision of registered nurse. Replenish stocks that have been used.
I have learn few new skills: To perform ECG, Administering oral, subcutaneous medication, To perform rectal digital examination and administer enema, Eye care, Collecting urine and fecal samples, Have much better understanding about blood test results, Removing sutures/staples, Assesing pressure ulcers, Wound care, Stoma care, Assesing child's developement.
I learned new skills and developed skills I already had. I have much better understanding about tasks I perform. I am much more confident and assertive. I am much better at prioritising my tasks and collaborating with other health professionals. Tutors in university are very supportive and I had very good supervisors.
It is well structured and organised, but sometimes placements are arranged at short notice (2 weeks notice). We are studying one subject at the time that helps to concentrate on it.

It is very interesting course and has wide variety of fields ( adult, child, mental health, leaning difficulty), placements in a hospital and community.
Do blended learning-helps to understand everything better, Don't leave assignments to the last week, Plan, Be prepared to take your annual leave when it is assigned to you by university and not always when you want to take it, Enjoy placements-that's a unique opportunity to experience different fields of nursing.
