  • My role includes creating tools regarding multiple areas such as licence management, carbon calculators and BIM App, to improve efficiency within the business. I am also involved in writing the minutes for the digital steering group and the technical systems group.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved both my soft and hard skills at Tony Gee. My teamworking skills have improved a lot; as I interact with a number of people on a daily basis. My problem solving skills have improved as well, I can now work more independently on a task without too much help and assistance. Some hard skills like computer programming have really improved as well.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the mixture of learning the theory and applying it in the workplace. Doing both things at the same time have helped me manage my time more efficiently. I enjoy having one day a week dedicated to university because I like the variety of modules I am currently learning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My workplace have been extremely organised since I started at Tony Gee. My university wasn't as organised in the first semester due to some complications but semester 2 is very organised which I am very relieved about. My tasks at work are purposely linked to what I learn at university so I can apply the theory straight away.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I have received from my employer is faultless. I can't find a bad word to describe how they have treated me here since I have started. My HR manager always reassures me and so does my boss. We speak about my role quite regularly and we review my tasks and actions regularly too.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support that I have received at university from my lecturers is average. Normal undergraduates don't receive that much support either because it is university, it is not school anymore so you are expected to do work in your own time as well. From the apprenticeship team, we do receive good support and our course director is always there to back our corner.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The modules I study at university always tie into my role, especially the software development modules. Most of the future modules will also tie into my role in the future so my boss always does his best to link the theory I am learning at university into my daily tasks at work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am a member of the social committee in my workplace so I help organise events and activities alongside my colleagues for our office. I am also a STEM ambassador that represents the company at conferences and I go out into schools and youth clubs to talk about STEM. If I find relevant conferences or events, work allow me to go and I feed back what I learned.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I do not have any negative things to say about this company. They don't just care about the work that they do, they care about their employees and we are all very well taken care of. I have some flexibility of what I focus on and I have a say in the work that I do which allows me to grow and shape my role.
