  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Providing new telephone lines to new customers and repairing existing lines to existing customers, Putting peoples broadband over to the Fibre To The Cabinet network. Giving great customer service to all customers I come into contact with on a daily basis. helping to provide everyone with access to the future fibre network.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my customer interaction and customer service further as a result of being involved with customer on a daily basis. I have learnt the basics of how the copper network works and how to provide service to a property, repair the copper network to remove faults and improve the service customers receive. this job has improved my confidence with new people

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have always enjoyed the programme since I started on my journey. I enjoy working with the different people on my team. meeting engineers I haven't met in the field before. I enjoy the fact that everyday is another learning day and you will always be learning and finding new or better ways to do the job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is organised well with a good amount of time focused on training although this could be extended to further our skills before going out in the field to do the work. The structure to the programme is good and allows everyone to find what they are good at within the programme.

  • I receive a very good amount of support from my employer and I know that if I require more support I can just ask and they will do their best to accommodate more support for me. There is always a good amount of support for people in the company if they require it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive a good amount of support from our training provider whilst working towards our qualifications. Their is always help at hand if were not sure of something and support when and if we need it. I know I can ask for support and it will be there for me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification will help me perform better in my role by me understanding my job better and the service we have to provide to our customers. I will be able to further my skills within the company as a result of gaining my qualification through my training provider.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes there are activities to get involved with at my workplace, the team I'm apart of like to have social gatherings now and again so we associate with each other out of work together, which as a result makes us a closer and more defined team. we often keep in touch in a group chat together too.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend Openreach to a friend as a career as it has helped me further my confidence with customers and the general public. And has helped me find myself within a company I know I can grow and expand my skills and experience as much as I would like.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would give others applying for Openreach the advice of being yourself, dont underestimate that your suitable for the company, make sure you explain and show your strengths and expand on these to show what your capable of as an individual and show how you would benefit the company and your team. Don't be afraid to show your different.
