  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day duty involves providing fibre to the premises. It also involves fixing the problem in the fibre network. I have to go to different locations everyday to complete my job. I have to travel up to 1 hour from my address. I get a company vehicle and other tools and equipment to carry out the task. Health and safety is taken very seriously in this company.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt to use the tools and equipment safely to complete the task. I have learnt new skills by taking various training. I have learnt how to work on the roads safely using proper signs, lights and guarding techniques. I have also went through confined space training. The training was about how to work safely in confined spaces.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I can say that the programme is quite enjoyable. It involves different types of tasks and activities so it does not get boring or monotonous. It also involves both outdoor and indoor activities. The trainers seem nice and the materials used for the training are short, precise and very informative.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured and organized. The programme is not very lengthy. It is very informative and enjoyable at the same time. The programme emphasises on various issues such as health and safety, different laws and legislations along with different trainings to prepare someone for the job. I would say it is a very good programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get enough support from my employer. My manager, supervisor or my colleagues are always ready to help me when I need help and support. My NVQ assessor is also very helpful. We communicate with each other regularly and provide feedback on each other. I can improve myself from those feedbacks I get.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider provides me enough support when I am working towards my qualification. My NVQ assessor keeps updating me on my progress. He sends me emails and provides me feedback on my work. That way I am able to look into the areas I need to work on. I get proper tools and equipment to conduct the training.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification I get after the training will help me perform a lot better in the future. Most of the things I learn on the training are closely related to the job I carry out on a daily basis. I got to learn new skills and knowledge during the training.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some extra-curricular activities within my job. Occasionally all the people from our team go out for some events so as to build better relationships. The company also encourage me to participate in different programs and events such as fundraising campaigns. The company encourages people to make use of the social networking app so that all the people within the company can stay connected and communicate to each other and build relationships.

  • Yes

  • I think Openreach is a great place to work at. It provides its employees very competitive pay and benefits. It provides enough training and support to its recruits. The company is very serious about health and safety and is committed to keep you safe while you do your job. Openreach is one of the leading telecommunication companies in the UK.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • When you apply to join Openreach, Ensure that you are able to drive safely and you take health and safety issue very seriously. You have to be ready to train in different locations away from your home address until the training ends. You also need to make sure that you have good attitude and get on well with people. You need to have decent communication skills.
