fibre jointer Review

my role is to joint fibre optic cable at a network level and develop my training to progress through the company at whatever level I want. on a normal day I will collect my jobs go collect whatever items I need to do the job and if I am working with someone then I will lease with them about what jobs we shall do first. once completed I will fill out the job on my phone and enter any details required once complete.

I have developed a lot of skill during my 6 months mainly in my first 3 months during my basic training. in the last 4 months ive worked for the fibre citys program and the skills ive learnt to do with network building and network maintenance mainly fault finding and proving connectivity.

ive enjoyed it a lot. the people ive met and the training I have received have been a lot of fun and spending time with my current team working and spending time after work with social functions during charismas. my current manager has made it very clear that he is open for any conversation.

the way the nvq works is we have one nvq assessor we work with directly. we have set days where we can work with our assessor who helps us complete the modules if need be. we receive all our modules at once so we can work through them at whatever pace we want

my manager/employer have given me a lot of support from days off to catch up on work or help from fellow college's with my managers approval. openreach gives me lots of help with material to reference for my nvq/apprenticeship. I get lots of extra time if needed for my apprentice

I don't think it helps all that much to be honest a lot of the course work is computer based or about BT/OpenReach ethics and policy. some of it requires evidence on completed works so I guess that helps a small amount but it would be nice of most f the material was about our job in detail.

we have bi monthly team meetings and charismas events. I bowl in a team outside of work and have had a few people mention that they would like to start something similar. but apart from that we have team meeting with upper management twice a year with options to stay over night at a bt approved hotel.

I feel its a great company and it offers lots of opportunity even starting at the very bottom all you have to do is be willing to put some time into it and some effort and openreach offer lots of job rolls and the money is pretty good considering what we do.

make sure your ready to be put out of your comfort zone and be willing to make changes to your life. if you put the effort in openreach will match that with opportunity's given to you and they will defiantly see that effort yo put in and match it
