  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes dealing with customers on the telephone and in person. We have to install new dropwires/lead ins telephone sockets to supply broadband to our customers. We are responsible for our safety with a daily risk assessment on every job we go on to keep us safe. we also fix faults and get our customers back in service.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I believe I have learnt new skills and developed my skills in the technical side of openreach from learning how to use my tester to detect faults and locating exactly where they are using the techniques I have been taught from the training school I atteneded for a period of 3 months.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the programme because of the amount of skills I have learnt from my trainers. The intense courses were a lot to take in but you learn so much from the safety on site to learning how to deal with your customers to the technical side of things within the jhob.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organised /structure of my programme is thoroughly well organised you are planned out throughout your first 12 weeks and beyond. different courses are there after your initial intense 12 weeks course to keep you well trained and the diploma assessors are always to hand when you need them they are extremely helpful .

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel this is the best job I have ever been in for support. the managers to the patch leads and to all the general workers are always there for you with advice help and will come and help if you are struggling. if you need extra support its given its brilliant.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe I get full support from my training provider they are extremely helpful give you really good guidance when you need it even if its a silly question they will give you a helpful answer and will go out of their way to help you its nice to have.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The reason I believe the qualification my provider is giving me helps me perform better in my role .is I am given in depth topics we have to learn about with every aspect of the job including climbing poles and houses to learning about dealing with customers and installing our services in their homes.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some social activities within the organisation but at present I am not joined to any of these. I believe that socially some of the engineers meet up for team meetings in the morning sometimes to offer guidance and help to those that need help and to get to know people who work in your patch.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • BT are a good company with a very good reputation. Now I work for the company I can see how they have come along over the years and how they have improved their service. Prices are reasonable and the company is now offering fibre to the premises which brings faster speeds to the customer


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would tell others who were thinking of applying for BT what a great company it is to work for and how if they did join they would benefit from learning so much and how they could progress through the company into higher roles if they wish to do so.
