  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my current rotation, i am essentially a project manager for a networking project to improve the management of a certain part in the network. This includes collaborating with many people offshore and across the UK, trying to find the solution to the next set of problems i face everyday.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • With a networking job, it's inevitable you'll learn a lot about the BT infrastructure and the network that comes with it. But aside from this, becoming a project manager has improved my communication skills and general confidence over the past few months, which is great to apply to any life situation, let alone work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • For the most part, i really enjoy the scheme I'm on. It's a very well thought out, versatile apprenticeship that has a lot of opportunity for social networking and growth. Bar the few minor issues with the education at uni side of things, i'd say im really enjoying this programme

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure to the programme is great, it's simply set out to make sure that everyone gets an equal opportunity to help develop their careers and explore the business in such a way that a normal team member would. Organisational wise, it's pretty good but certainly room for improvement

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I'd say that i receive more than enough support from pretty much everyone that i feel i should gain support from. The team members that i contact a lot are more than helpful for any queries i'd have. My manager is more than supportive in and out of work as well

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have an apprenticeship assessor that is really useful. Although, they do seem very busy most of the time (which isnt their fault) so sometimes there's almost a queue to speak to them. But even then, i think they are still very helpful whenever i need help towards something.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Given that the qualification i have been working towards is directly related to my job, it is extremely useful to work along side with. A module im currently doing is called "Managing Network Projects" which is very closely related to the rotation im currently doing in project management, which is hand in hand.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There's many things that BT offer that anyone could be apart of. It ranges from gym classes, to sailing and kickboxing all the way to the more tech side of things, with people running code clubs and whatnot to help other employees benefit from new skills, making them more versatile employees.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • BT has an incredible apprenticeship scheme that works for so many people. It's incredibly versatile in what you can be taught and work towards. I've wanted to join BT for many years after hearing about it from my father when i was about 15. It's such a great scheme to be apart of, and something im proud of.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would say that you need to be yourself throughout the whole of the process of the interviews. Do your background research of the company, show interest in the apprenticeship and the company in general. Motivation and being intrigued is something that BT really look for, as well as willingness to learn
