  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day I work on various projects delivering and aiding my team in cost management services to clients. I take a role in cost reporting, tendering and changes throughout a construction process as well as attending client and design team meetings. Outside of my team I help out with apprentice activities such as having work experiences shadowing me and doing panel talks to help promote the apprenticeship scheme.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my apprenticeship I have become much more confident when talking to new people as well as being able to talk and present to numerous people at once. I have also learnt valuable skills such as report writing, formal email writing and excel sheets. Further to this I have learnt how to manage my time with my work and university study balance.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the programme I am on, I have met so many new people and have had the chance to work on big projects someone at my age probably wouldn’t have had the opportunity to! I love the work and social side of the industry and I’m glad I chose an apprenticeship to get my foot in the door!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My work have a great structure to the scheme however I have had some difficulties with UCEM and my apprenticeship coordinator when starting out my APC. As you can understand this is a little disappointing due to the great structure I have within my company however this is the only problem I have had so far!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have great support from my employer as well as my individual team. They have been great at teaching me the valuable skills I need to complete my apprenticeship as well as giving me exposure to various projects across the industry, not only do they help me with my university studies they also help me with life skills I require.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • UCEM are great at helping out with my studies giving good support through their student central and resources available on the VLE. However, on the other hand it hasn’t been so good from my apprenticeship coordinator as they have given us various bits of wrong information that has misled us in the past.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The modules taught in my second/third year have helped me with my day to day role within work really well. However, I have found some of the modules taught in my first/second year weren’t as related to my day to day role as I hoped they would.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

  • 9a. Would you recommend CBRE to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They have a great network of people to get to know as well as have great support to those who are early on in their career. They provide schemes and events which help you network across the industry and get on your feet easily! They are a company for a lifetime

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CBRE?
  • Be yourself and understand that not everyone comes out of school/college with in depth knowledge around the industry. Be confident in asking why and be enthusiastic in learning around the property industry. Make yourself known and as well as read up around the industry to show enthusiasm and interest!
