  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis, i come into work and i will have a catch up with my manager on the work i did the previous day and if i am continuing that on. That work will conist of some mark ups for changing some drawings, or i could be analisyis clearances to check the design matches the as-built.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i hav epicked up some new skills while being at arup and coming into this when i was only 17. i am doing a level 3 in civil engineering and have learnt a lot in college that can relate to my work. I have learnt CAD to be able to produce my work, i have picked up how to communicate with proffesional people like clients and i have been put on excel courses to gain more knowlege.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i have really enjoyed my program. My team in work are very supportive of my work and will give me feedback good and bad as this will help me to improve. My college day is very good and the teachers are well trained in the subjects they are teaching and they are quick to answer any questions.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • When i firsted started i recived a college induction before i started my apprentiship this was good to get all paper work done and meet people on my course. When i was in my office i recived a warm welcome and 1 month in week on a apprentice induction, where we met all appretnices in the Uk in Arup. I am givin a line manager at work that also tracks my progress and helps me to improve.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In work i am given a line manager that checks in with me everyday and if i have issues with my work he can help or just a genaral question he can help witj. We also have a HR team if we need to raise any consern in the workplace. They are all very suuportie and will help with anything.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When in college, all our teachers are approchable and we can raise any problems to one of them. We are given a course leader if we want to raise anything about the couse and that we want changed to it. They all support us and i enjoy my apprentiship lots.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My collge course helps me in work as my course is relevant as i can relate my work i do to my college and i know a background to it now, also i feel i know more about my job role having the qualificatuion and it will help me to progress in my comany.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • In my work we have lots of activities we can get involved with and we have teams we can ask if we feel we want to join or help out if we feel something is missing. We have a sports teams that have football teams, rugby teams etc... we also have a charity commity that raise money for charitys.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Arup to a friend as it a very good apprentice course. I have lerant a lot in the same time i have been here and i have enjoyed my work and college and they have taught me things that i didnt know and can hep me grow my knowlege.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • When i first applyed on the website i had to write about a Arup built project and explain its goods. This was follwed by a telephone interview, then we had a workshop day where there was 12 of us and had to do a group activity. They we had a formal interview where we had the chance to bring in work.
