  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Motor Underwriting Department for Motor Insurance. We deal with underwriting issues on policies at new business, mid-term and renewal periods. We also deal with Underwriting issues during a claim. We will refer to the main policy underwriter if something falls outside of our delegated authority.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt more about the wider insurance industry through my CII exams. I have also gained more experience within my department as my skills improve.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy my program as it is helping me to gain more authority and experience in my day to day role. I am also gaining qualifications as I am going along.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Having a tutor has really helped me to have a structured course. Without the tutor I believe I wouldn't be completing the course as quickly or correctly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is very supportive however it is often hard to get time during work to focus on just apprenticeship tasks as my work is so busy.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider has given me a tutor who has helped me organise myself a lot during this course. My tutor has also helped me to revise for my exams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am learning more complicated processes as my knowledge in insurance is growing. I am also able to increase my authority level from the success of the CII exams. In turn I am now training others in some processes.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some social activities throughout the year, however I have not been able to attend all of them as they are sometimes based very far away and I have personal commitments.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Good opportunities and good working relationships. They also have a fantastic nursery.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Saga plc?
  • Saga is very customer focused. So when applying for a job here be sure to show how the customers interests are the core of your work.
