  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have certainly developed many new skills in the funeralcare sector and have a very good understanding of what is required for a funeral service and the paperwork requirements. I have developed my communication skills via phone, email and in person and feel I have a better understanding of how to support people dealing with grief and loss.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme very much and relish learning more and more about the funeralcare sector. The apprentership has allowed me to look more in depth into areas of my job role and my day to day responsibilities and also other colleagues job roles and how we all knit together to create a first class service for our clients.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation hasn't always been wonderful as I was missed off the initial sign up process. However once I was signed up my coach has been guiding me through the programme. Sometimes it is difficult for the business to support me with time to complete my work, but usually if I am careful with my time keeping I am able to complete my coursework within the required time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As I mentioned before, my employer has to be focused on caring for our clients and pushing the business forward. This can often mean that time allowed for coursework is difficult to find. However if necessary I can consult with my manager and colleagues to assist me with my day to day work to allow me time to complete course work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • If a friend was looking for a career where they can make a real difference to people at a very difficult time in their lives, then this would be the company and role I would recommend. Also the apprentership allows you to learn while you work and really expand your knowledge which helps you deliver a higher level of care to your clients.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • Persevere with the apprentership as it really does increase your knowledge and skills. Even though sometimes it can be difficult to find the time to do the course work. This is a very rewarding job especially if you put in 110% and you are eager to learn and look after your clients to the best of your ability.
