  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • This involves interacting with other surveyors, networking, inspecting properties and valuing specialist developments. I am expected to be punctual and to dress professionally. Days differ from day to day. No day in the office is the same. One day I could be in the office for the majority of the day, another day I could be on inspections.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I specifically learnt about the importance of the materials used in the property such as UPVC double glazed windows,, whether the specialist home benefits from mains services and whether the property is well-presented following its probable capital expenditure. This provided a greater insight into a role of surveyor in the department while equipping me with effective communication skills needed to network with other high members of society within the industry.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am truly appreciative of this opportunity, it has enabled me to expand my horizons and gain an insight into different opportunities available in the property industry. The office is amazing too. I like the programme because it enables me to have practical experience while learning the theory at university.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is fairly structured. The general idea of the programme is that we work for 4 days and study for 1 day in a week. Things such as study leave is questionable as it seems to vary from year to year. This year the entitled days of study leave decreased without communication expressed. I like the programme because it enables me to have practical experience while learning the theory at university.
