  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • So my role at softcat entails me taking out a number of tasks day to day. The main responsibility that I have is being a customers first port of call, being there for whatever the customer needs. However the customers are not given to us we have to go out and find them ourselves via cold calling or emailing into accounts.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yeah since I have started softcat I’ve learned a whole host of skills like effective ways to open doors into business that are not yet doing business by using different techniques I have been taught by our training providers (remit) we also get taught all sorts of technical knowledge that helps aid us in making sales

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really have enjoyed my time so far at softcat. I finally feel like my life is on track after spending 3 years in happily working at Tesco. I now wake up exilcited and not dreading going to work as I also see my colleges as friends not just work mates.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like the apprenticeship is very well structured. We are visited once a month or so by 2 different training provider, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who does the psychology of sales training and [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who brings us the lessons for technical knowledge. We also have a whole host of training that is available to us which is provided by different vendors

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive lots of support from our employer whether it’s a problem we are having at work or even issues that are going on outside of work. Although I have not had to get any support I have seen it first hand being given to my work mates so I know they are there should I need them

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Our training provider russ who does the technical knowledge and coursework and he is very helpful and easily accessible. For example I can call him at any time even in the evening sometimes after work and he still picks up the phone and is happy to help with whatever queries i may have about the qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like what we are learning in the apprenticeship has helped me massively already in my role, mostly for me as I was already quite technically minded before I started I have found psychology training to be the most useful to me I find all her tactics work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes I think personally this is where softcat exceeds all other employers. You can always be looking forward to the next party/ function/ night out they are planning. Softcat is a very fun and young company that love to play and work hard, I’ve never seen a company to have so much extra curricular to take part in and personally I think that’s fantastic.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Softcat to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have already recommended softcat to a lot of my friends and a couple have already been to interviews. I honestly cannot imagine a place that i would rather be working than here. Softcat has such a unique and friendly culture so when I hear about friends not enjoying there jobs I’m always the first to tell them about softcat and ask why not join!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • I would give the advise to be yourself in the interview. Softcat is a very genuine company and we don’t like taking ourselves too seriously. Everyone is always up for a laugh! I think that I would also give them the advise to be prepared to work hard as it is a hardworking environment.
