  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a corporate account executive in softcats London office. Therefore I target small to medium sized businesses to help with their IT needs. I cold call, email, quote and complete admin tasks through out my day, as well has having regular training internally and externally. I also have many calls involving specialists once the deal becomes too technical. They will help me once I have qualified the deal and got an opportunity for Softcat.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many new skills and developed existing since being at my apprenticeship here at softcat. For example, I have developed alot of people skills as I interact and work with many different types of people during each day. This has improved my confidence and makes me come across a lot more professional on the phone when talking to customers as well as in person when interacting with colleagues and Specialists.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship is very well structured and organised. We complete a lot of training throughout each month and have calendar invites sent out months prior to this so everyone knows where and when to go. We also complete a cross programme project where the sales apprentices get together with the business admin apprentices in order to come up with ways to promote softcat and the apprenticeship programme itself. This is also very structured as we have regular meetings to discuss our ideas.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. Softcat are very supportive as I have many people who I can go to with issues, either outside of work or inside of work. They are always asking for my feedback on training and meetings. As well as having monthly catchups with my apprentice manager to discuss my future plans and what I am struggling on or need more support on.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider Remit. We have a few training sessions a month and have one to one sessions with our provider also. This allows us to tell them anything we are struggling with so they can help us out. Furthermore, my training provider is very approachable and are always available to help. This helps me work towards my qualification as I can get over any hurdles I face quickly and get on with the next piece of work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification through my training provider helps me to perform better in my role as I learn new skills to enable me to speak to customers more efficiently. I learn more about products softcat sell and how to approach different types of people so I can handle situations I may come across during my time in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities at Softcat. For example there is a football club and training on Tuesday nights that anyone can attend to. As well as vendor lunches, or drinks after work to get to know them and socialise. Softcat also encourage many team nights out and team lunches for us to get involved in so we can bond as a team. Lastly, we also go out as a group of apprentices to bond and spend time together such as go karting and drinks.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Softcat to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would defiantly recommend softcat to a friend. This is because the culture is very welcoming and promotes having fun at work. As well as the apprenticeship being very supportive and fun as we get many amazing opportunities such as going to apple head quarters for our Q2 kick off where we received iPads to use during work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • I would tell people to learn as much as they can about softcat and the industry so they can stand out from others. As well as doing every opportunity that’s thrown at you and get stuck into everything you possibly can. I also recommend to be as confident as you can and be yourself.
