  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am on the waiting list for some courses such as a Minute Taking Course. I have developed my communication skills as this is a big part of my role and I communicate with a lot of internal and external people. I have learnt skills about diary management and meeting organisation. I would like to further my Excel skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy working within the team I am in, I feel very supported in both my work-life and study life. Its bringing me a lot of new opportunities that I was not exposed to in previous jobs.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Since i have begun my apprenticeship, 20% of my hours are study hours. Therefore, i will take one day a week to complete my apprenticeship work and my line manager/team are very supportive of this and make sure i do get the right amount of time for this. I tend to do this from home or in an office away from my desk so i do not get distracted. My mentor, Sarah is really helpful, she is always at the end of an email or phone call if i have any questions. Its nice to see her every month to catch up and give me a chance to ask anything about pieces of work she has set me.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get a lot of support from my line manager and the rest of the team. When i start doing modules which involve speaking with other teams i think they will have the same attitude and help me wherever i need as i already have had contact with a lot of them through work related things. If i ever have any problems, they will help me where they can and if they can't they will speak to the relevant person such as HR about this

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor is very supportive and helpful. I know that i can give her a ring or send an email if i have any issues and she'll be happy to help at her earliest convenience. She sets work that is in line with what i am currently doing at work so it can help me give examples. Shes very interested in the company i work for and what they do and what i do in my job. She helps me to pin point tasks which i can use in my work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I haven't yet put a lot of the theory into practice as i have been doing a lot of it already. However, when i start modules around Finance this will give me a chance to start learning new things and apply what i have learnt in my role, this could be by shadowing the finance team as my job role does not directly involve finance other than raising purchase orders. I have had to do quite a bit of research into the company and into the team i work in, for example looking at the structure of it.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have development days within our team and with the other local offices. We also have team social time once a month which gives us all a chance to come away from the work side of thing and talk about ourselves and others to find out more about people. There is the Christmas company event but i have not attended this.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel very supported in the work i am doing, there are a lot of opportunities being offered to me to further my skills. I also enjoy the work that i am being given which makes a big difference to my job overall. I started as a band 2 apprentice and when a band 4 vacancy came up, i applied for this and was successful and i am lucky that HEE have let me continue my apprenticeship whilst being a band 4.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • The application process is about why you want the job, why you want to work for the company and how this will benefit them and you. In the interview, it is important to be honest about what your strengths and weaknesses are, because being an apprentice is about learning new skills and improving on those you aren't so confident in. They don't want to employ someone who thinks that they don't have anything to work on whether it be personal or professional because development is a big part of the job role. If successful, be yourself in the team, everyone will be the same back to you as then everyone has an understanding of how people work best and can support each other. If you ask about different courses you are interested in, they will try and find you one to go on, it could be E-learning, internal or external training but it all helps. You will have appraisals and a personal development plan where you can look at your development over your time at the company. I would have like to be told more about the company as a whole, i only really understood what HEE done when i researched more into them as part of my module however looking back, i should have done this initially.
