  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I support the team I am a part of in any way i can or any way they need me too. This includes going out to surveys, simpler office tasks or organizing the surveys we are doing for clients on the web based portal we commonly use. I have also carried out my own surveys.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot about a piece of software we use to carry out out surveys. Both from an admin side and a surveyor side. I have had the chance to meet new people and develop my social skills. I have also learned Building Surveyor knowledge that I have yet to learn at university which has helped me with my studies.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying my programme from both the work and university point of view. I feel the mix of both practical based work and classroom learning will serve me well in my future career. I realize how great this opportunity is to be working for one of the biggest worldwide companies at what they do something that is not guaranteed going down the traditional university route.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure between the university and the workplace is good. I go to university 3 times a year for two weeks which I would rather than going one day a week as I feel it is the better way to learn. I felt the induction process was good meeting other apprentices in my year and older years. The structure in work is okay and I realize what changing circumstances in my team can lead to as things in workplaces can change so quickly,

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I receive from my employer is great. The members in my team and other teams have offered support when it comes to my uni work which is good. There is also plenty of support networks throughout the company and we have received plenty of guidance on well being and things that can affect it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The University provides an open door policy for both full time students and apprentices. This means the lecturers should be accessible for support at any time. The few times I have contacted them about queries regarding coursework or anything else I have always received a suitable response in good time.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Depends, some of the modules I have done at university have been great for teaching me skills for my role and have definitely helped me at work. However some modules and coursework I have done I struggle to see the relevance for my job or the Degree i am working towards.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am aware of the extra curricular activities available to me and I have played in a football team representing the company at a local tournament. In the future i would like to get involved with the various groups which other apprentices are a part of which promote various important subjects throughout the company. Regarding professional networking events for apprentices I am unaware of any of these in my area but hopefully more opportunities for these open up as apprentice numbers grow.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cushman & Wakefield to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are one of the market leaders at what they do and a good company to work for. They value apprentices and make you feel welcome. It is a great opportunity to combine work and study which will set you apart from graduates as you will have great work experience and they will not.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cushman & Wakefield?
  • Take your time during the online process making sure you answer every question to the best of your ability and as in depth as possible. Take your time to learn about what the company do and some of the business they have been involved in. Unlike other companies I applied for Cushman & Wakefield value personality over industry knowledge, and whilst some knowledge is valuable and useful for interviews the most important thing is to be yourself, down to earth and ask questions back!
