  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at Telford college includes various administrative tasks such as: data input, photocopying, booking hotels, managing the pool laptops, booking the pool car, liaising with other departments, taking and making phone calls to learners, answering enquiries both internally and externally, creating business documents, maintaining and issuing stationery carrying out team meeting minutes and team meeting register.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before my job at Telford College I had no experience with administration so much of my job was completely new to me. The new skills I developed included IT skills as I have been able to sit both my level 1 Functional Skills IT as well as the level 2 Functional skills IT, this has included learning how to effectively use excel. I have been able to develop a good telephone manner through taking enquiries and liaising with other businesses over the phone. Similarly, I have also improved other aspects of communication such as composing and sending emails. I have also learned how to invigilate and provide administrative support for the Pearson Vue test centre

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my course and I feel that it has really helped me gain a better understanding of my role and helped to support my team more effectively. My assessor and mentor have been very supportive throughout and are always available to answer any question that I may have.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel my apprenticeship has been very well organised from the start, it was made clear to me from the beginning what was expected of me from my assessor. Because my apprenticeship has been well organised, I am on target to complete my apprenticeship 3 months before my planned end date.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been very supportive throughout my apprenticeship, providing me with many opportunities to complete off the job training and giving me a fixed time each week in order to complete any coursework. My mentor is always is always on hand to answer any questions that I may have and to offer support and training in aspects of my job that I am not yet confident in.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel very well supported by my assessor. She always replies to any queries that I have regarding my course and provides helpful resources to help me complete my coursework. I meet with her regularly to discuss my progress, receive feedback on submitted pieces of work and talk through the new piece of work that has been set.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My business admin qualification has helped my to perform my role effectively, for instance I now have a greater understand of communication in a business environment as needed to carry out a large amount of research into it in order to complete the unit. I have also been able to produce several business documents that are regularly used by the team which was also a unit that I needed to complete for my qualification

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Once per month the college hold a "well being walk" where members of staff can meet and take a walk around the local area. Also at the end of each term there are staff shows in which members of staff can participate. There is also a gym on site which is free for both staff and students to use.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have found the college a very pleasant place to work with lovely colleagues to work alongside. when I first started i knew nothing about the job role but was given full training. I have been very well supported by the college throughout my apprenticeship and I really enjoy working here.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Telford College?
  • I would advise anyone applying to do their research into the college so that they have a good idea of what the college stands for and hopes to achieve. I would also say to asks lots of questions at the interview and not to be be too nervous if they do manage to get an interview.
