Apprentice Site Manager Review

So I have started as an apprentice site manager and I work along side project managers and senior site managers. I assist wherever I can and help in the management side of the construction project. I mainly do quality checks in the first phase internal works and help manage the subcontractors.

From working at Sisk for my first 5 months now I have developed my people management skills and enhanced my organisation in the working environment. Additionally, from gaining the working experience of being out on site or in the office it has boosted my confidence with dealing with people. With also attending college as well as working it as increased my skill at organizing my work load and maintaining a healthy balance.

I thoroughly enjoy the program I have been placed on with the people I attend college with and work with. I also am keen in learning more in the construction industry and gaining as much experience as I can to further my career. I have been interested to continue on after I finish my apprenticeship and to take my career further in construction.

My program is well organised and structured with the company and the college. However, I am currently completing my level 4 HNC and NVQ and the practical side of the NVQ of the college has yet to begin. The company however are very well organised and take time to listen to my concerns and want me to feel comfortable in my position.

My employer provides plenty of support with my work and college work loads. Sisk allow me time to work on my college assignments in working hours and have organised a block leave system where I go and attend college one week a month. This enables me to focus on college and achieve the best that I can. The company additionally offer many systems where I can voice my concerns and I have someone I can go and ask if I have any worries.

The college are very supportive of the apprenticeship program where we attend one week every month. They also provide additional extra support programs to help us with areas that we might struggle with or give us additional time to finish are work with special circumstances. The management and staff at the college ensure that we are supported and looked after in our workplaces as well.

Very well since I have been placed on the right course to gain the appropriate qualification, therefore, I can progress my career further. Once I achieve the level 4 HNC and NVQ I can then go on to university. Which will lead to me becoming fully qualified for my desired career.

Work have various social activities and events which are planned to try and suit as many people as possible. Such as sport events and social gatherings for everyone in the office to meet outside of work. Sisk also provide additional training courses to further their employees knowledge and professionalism whether they are a senior member of staff or younger.

I think John Sisk and Sons is a nice family owned business who promote apprenticeships and other schemes to broaden the industry. I think they bring a lot of opportunities to the younger generation in the construction industry and provide training programs. They also have a lot of work opportunities throughout the UK and Ireland. Sisk also offer the chance of working abroad as well since it is a big construction firm.
