  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working with engineers and clients to complete cost estimates. Taking measurements, creating BoQ's sourcing rates, controlling data, answering client queries.

  • Technical knowledge about infrastructure from engineers. Learnt skills on how to take off from drawings. Internal courses for wellbeing and health. Grown in confidence and the ability to work with professionals.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Really enjoy the studies as they fit into the work in the office. The team are very supportive and always take time to teach when needed. It completely meets the expectations of working alongside studying.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very structured, 10 week check ins with coordinators at the University. Quarterly workshops with chartered professionals. Communication 24/7 on the University site. Work colleges are interested in the course and support the learning to combine with the projects in the office.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support. 1 day a week study leave and additional days where required for exams and assignments. Mentor who regularly checks in with me and will support any University work and work on projects. HR are always available if needed too.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • 10 week check ins addressing any concerns, talking about general well being too. Discuss upcoming assignments and exams and the tutors are all available to adress any concerns you have.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am learning on the job and also through University, I have confidence when talking to engineers and clients using technical language. I apply both University work and project work against each other.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Arup offer many sports teams, charity work and school/college events, there are also lots of professional networking events to attend to.

  • Yes

  • Global company with good values on how to make the world a better place. Lots of opportunities to travel and learn and develop knowledge in any subject/topic and will all be supported by Arup and the team.

  • Be confident, think about a favorite project and think about how you can influence the area/country that you live in to make it a better place.
