  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my time as an apprentice a lot as it was exactly what I wanted to go into and now I can see my career progressing and moving further as I learn and develop new skills. College was a lot better than I had expected and different from being in school

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • SSE is a large company so it has to have a good structure to it so as you could imagine the apprenticeship was the same. We started off with block work and gradually reduced the amount of time at college and increased the amount of time on site making sure we was constantly getting the training required with regular checks from our training officer.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was always there to help me when I was struggling or when I needed things for my apprenticeship. They would provide transport for me to get to and from college as I couldn’t drive at the time I started. They always made sure to give me extra training if I asked for it

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • You receive an adequate amount of help. You’re supposed to be working towards being independent so they take a step back once they’ve explained it but if it takes you time to understand they will sit with you and break it down so you can understand it better

    8/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Without my qualification I wouldn’t be able to do a lot of the jobs in my work and without it I couldn’t be an electrician so having it means that I can continue to work at a high level and insure all safety standards are met and completed

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We don’t have much activities out of work but occasionally we play football on a Friday after work at our local five a side pitches which is a good chance to have a laugh with the guys you work with. Once or twice a year we all get together for a night out

  • 9a. Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They’re a great company to work for and there’s lot of routes for progression for moving about in the company. They make sure all your needs are met and the company has some great benefits that you can use in your own personal time. So I would definitely recommend

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
  • Don’t be put off by the many stages In applying for the apprenticeship it might take a lot of time and you might think you don’t know what you’re doing but chances are that you do it’s a lot of common sense the application process so don’t be thrown off
