  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis we are manufacturing small jobs using different types of machinery. At the end of each 8 week period we have a week of assessments where we have to create an assessment job based on the sector we are currently in using the machinery which is relevant to the sector. We also go to college one day a week where we are completing a level 3 in advanced manufacturing.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills during my apprenticeship due to the fact that before I started it I had never used any machinery within the engineering sector. The apprenticeship has also helped me to work better in a team with my fellow apprentices. The apprenticeship has also helped develop my practical skills when working with tools/equipment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme I am on due to the fact that there is always a new challenge every day which means that work is rarely ever boring and there is always something to do or learn when I am at work. I think I would struggle to find an apprenticeship which I would enjoy as much as this one.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the apprenticeship is well structured however due to the large amount of work within each sector the timescale is tight meaning that the work that I am assigned needs to be complete before certain dates to prevent the workload from becoming too much. The 8 week assessment structure is a very well thought structure.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer especially through the trainers in work. They help give guidance and tips how to carry out certain work procedures as well as teaching me how to use certain equipment and machinery. They support me during every job I carry out to ensure I am doing things the correct safe way.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive a lot of support from our training provider. When we go to college we have 6 different teachers which teach us 6 different topics within the advanced manufacturing programme. Whenever we ask for help or guidance they always help and provide us with key information about certain tasks.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualification I study helps me at work due to the fact that everything I do at college can be applied at work. An example of this would be my health and safety qualification as I refer and implement to this every day at work and my qualification has helped me understand this more.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some extra curricular activities however they are not well advertised and there is little information broadcasted about them meaning that they are difficult to find out about and to get involved in. The only extra curricular activity I have done was a cleaning up activity in a park local to work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend siemens to a friend due to the fact that I feel that there apprenticeship scheme is the best engineering scheme available and I would also reccomend it due to the opportunities that can arise from doing the apprenticeship programme and by also working for the siemens company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • I would give advice to others applying such as making sure they have a good CV, are confident in there interview, Do extra curriculum activities regular and also to show a real passion and determination towards the apprentice role and to show interest in siemens as a company and the work they carry out.
