Software Engineer Review

I am a software enginee, which involves testing and writing code on a daily basis, working with my team. I use a variety of different languages, mainly Java and JavaScript. There are a lot of regular meetyings with the team and customer to make sure the customer gets what they want.

I've learnt and developed many skills, for example my programming and problem solving skills. I have also developed more soft skills such as professional behaviours as well as public speaking. This has helped my grow as an individual inside and outside the office and the connections I have made are very helpful.

I enjoy the program a lot as the work is varied and I also like the people that I work with regularly. There is also the social aspect of work with social clubs such as 5 a side which means you get to know your colleagues a bit more well.

It is well organised and strucuted on the work aspect of things, however when external training providers get involved it can be more difficult as information about the programme and things like exams no longer come from one source of truth, however I've had a mostly positive experience myself.

I recieve a lot of support from my employer. Firstly if I ever feel out of my depth with my work or I am not enjoying the work I am working on I can ask to move projects or move into something I feel would be a better fit for me.

I receive a good amount of support from my training provider when working towards qualifications. The trainers at Estio Training have been great and really helped us gain knowledge needed to pass exams. They have supported us with exams and this has been very beneficial to me and also others.

I feel like the qualifications help me perform better as they have given me more knowledge using languages such as Java however I do feel like when working toward passing these exams that is exactly what you are doing; learning for the exam. While this knowledge can be applied in some cases to the workplace there is a lot that is skipped over or parts missing as it is not necessary for the exam but is crucial in the workplace.

There are many extra-curricular activities to get involved in, for example social events when apprentices and graduates will get together outside of work, as well as sports clubs such as a 5 a side team that plays every week and a skiing / snowboarding club that gets together every month or so.

It is a great, big company to work for and looks great on your CV, and would really help your chances of getting other jobs with different companies in the future. The work is varied and exciting and the company cares about it's employees. The people are great and the clubs are fun and help with work.

Be yourself, stand out, be confident and maintain eye contact. Try and get some experience of the job you will be doing before you go for the interview so you can have some technical knowledge. Try and show to them why you should get the job over someone else s.
