My role is that of an assistant quantity surveyor: pricing variations, managing sub-contractor payments, applying for payments, using the contract, meeting with clients and working independently on my own projects.
I have developed: team work, communication, leadership time management and organisational skills. I have learnt a lot of new technical abilities relating to the job such as interpreting and using the contract.
I really enjoy the work i do, it is challenging and i have responsibilities so i take pride in my work.
The work place learning programme is brilliant, utilising SMART targets setting yearly objectives to complete.
My employer is approachable and always helpful.
The university provide minimal support especially regarding the charter-ship aspect of which there is no support or guidance provided. Strike action has made it difficult for me as a part time student and organisation of modules has been poor in many cases.
Certain modules provide a lot of information, such as contracts but most of my learning is done through the work place. It provides me with a wider knowledge of the industry rather than my role.
There are a couple of charity events held through the year but no regular social events.
