  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I work with fellow colleagues who assign me a task and teach me how to carry out the task. I do different tasks on different jobs but my favourite tasks are doing lighting design, doing domestic services layouts and designing both mechanical and electrical components on Autocad

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting my apprenticeship with Mott MacDonald I have learnt various different skills and improved the skills I already knew. My team work skills have improved as I am constantly communicating and working with a team to get the best outcome. I have also learnt engineering skills I didn't even know existed before

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the program I am on. I like both the college and working sides of my job. In work I enjoy doing tasks on projects and doing calculations and designing tasks. I also like learning in college and in the work place as I am always gaining new skills from both college and work

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program is very well organised. My company Mott MacDonald organise my program well as they provide me with all the resources I need to learn as much as possible. My college also organise my program well as they provide all the knowledge you need to learn different tasks and carry out your assignments to the highest level.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer are a very supportive company. Mott MacDonald provide you with a mentor and a line a line manager to support you as much as possible. My mentor and I have frequent meetings to see how I am progressing. They are always making sure my work load isn't making me stressed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • To gain my qualifications I need to have gained the information which the college / trainer are good. My college are also good at giving feedback in order to improve your work and assignments. If you ever need help with a certain subject within the course the college are always supportive enough to help you.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I learn about many different components elsewhere of my team which is useful as to have basic understanding of other teams so when In a meeting I understand what they are going on about. Also some of the things I learn from my qualification I use in my day to day work

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there is a social team set up in the office to organise events for people to socialise outside of the work place. There is football and squash activities and also on special occasions such as Christmas or a birthday there are drinks after work for people to attend to.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Being part of Mott MacDonald is very enjoyable. You are given responsibility which not all apprentices elsewhere get. Also the people within Mott MacDonald are very nice and are welcoming. Mott MacDonald provide good education and facilities for their workers to make them get the best from their job role and learning.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • I would highly advise someone to join Mott MacDonald. When applying you need to advertise yourself as Mott MacDonald want the best employees as possible. Don't be nervous about joining Mott MacDonald it Is a very fun and welcoming place. I would advise that you look into all the teams to make sure you are getting the correct role.
