  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role on a day to day basis varies , I am still in the stage of learning different elements of the role which is very rewarding. It includes reporting different quantities such as labour and wagons as well carrying out phasing slides to show the progression of work over time.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a much better understanding of programs I had used previously such as excel and PowerPoint. Skanska has also given me the opportunity to learn new programs such as Synchro. Whilst at Skanska I have also developed a grater level of analytic thinking in order to solve problem and also become more aware of details which can have a greater impact on overall project.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme is interesting as it blends classroom learning 2-3 time a month with practical work. The college sessions are in depth and leave no detail unturned. My team is well established with plenty of experience and are always willing to guide me so this makes the experience all the more positive.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program has been well structured so far. The induction was very clear , the training is often and very detailed on nature. I am provided support as when it is required. But I am also allowed to learn things through experimenting where it will benefit my development. The mentor system in place is also extremely beneficial in helping me achieve that which is required by my apprenticeship standard.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager acts as a vessel for effective support in my career development , the HR team is also extremely helpful when it comes to answering any queries with regards to the company such as holidays etc. My Mentor is also very effective when it comes to managing my development in order to maximise my potential as an apprentice planner.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is very effective in supporting our journey to the completion of out apprenticeship standard. The set of tutors which we interact with are extremely knowledgeable and do their absolute best in order to support us and answer all of our questions. The general attitude towards support is also positive.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The learning that I experience from college is extremely useful in my day to day role. The theory behind the role which is the centre of my college learning acts as a foundation for me to perform efficiently in the workplace. The standard has taught me vast amounts about the industry and educated me with regards to the endless possibilities in the field.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I have attended a few events for work. This included the company Christmas lunch which was a nice experience and helped me learn more about my team. I also attended a charity day helping out on a farm to feed the local homeless community. Besides this my extra-curricular activities are private.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Skanska as a work place as it it's a great environment for development with a wholesome and kind company community. They also exercise their core values effectively making the workplace all the more enjoyable. They also have a very good and easy to use internal network.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Skanska?
  • If I were to advice someone who was to apply to Skanska I would recommend doing research with regards to the company values. Make sure you are aware of the details of your role as well as the potential progression. Research the activities which your would potential be required to carry out and assess whether they suit your skill set.
