Trainee/intern Review

I was assigned to work on various clients throughout my placement. I was tasked with covering the less complicated FSLIs- such as cash, PPE and accruals. I would often be based at a client site where I would gather evidence to support their financial statements in order to give a reasonable audit opinion at the end.

Some of the new skills I have learnt are mainly technological. I am able to confidently navigate around our internal systems which we use for the audit and locate what I need fo reach engagement with ease. I am now more confident with the use of excel as i have been introduced to new formulas and keyboard shortcuts which help to improve efficiency.

I have enjoyed meeting new people both from the office and from the client site. I have since met a variety of people and most I hope to remain friends with. PwC have a very welcoming atmosphere and everyone I have spoke to have been extremely friendly and willing to offer their time to help me if needed.

Some aspects of the programme, such as resourcing, aren't the best as I have been placed on jobs where I have been based in the office working on my own. The only coaching I received was from someone based in another office over google hangouts, which wasn't very beneficial to my work when I had a couple of questions to ask them.

This has varied from job to job. Each engagement I have been with a different team and on most of these I have been given excellent coaching and some people have gone above and beyond to ensure that i am comfortable with what i am testing and that i understand why we are doing this.

We have a couple of seminars specifically designated to our upcoming exams, but aside from this there is little extra support. There are also an intense two weeks where we go over the whole content, but this is months prior to the exam, so isn't very beneficial for remembering the content.

Studying for our qualifications alongside working on our placement has greatly benefited me as it has helped me to understand the reason behind why we carry out our testing.

There have been a couple of socials organised by PwC which are open to everyone. Some have been less well organised though and we have only been informed about them the night before. At the end of the year we have all been invited to a christmas ball and meal.
