  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role on a day-to-day basis is to book travel when requested (includes taxis, hotels, flights and trains), to respond to emails whenever they come in, to greet visitors whenever they arrive at the office and give them their visitor passes (and offer tea or coffee if necessary) to sign for packages when they arrive for my co-workers and to deliver post by hand (people have to collect their packages from me, but I deliver their post by hand)

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have absolutely learnt new skills, those of which include being able to take minutes in a meeting, to be cost-effective when booking travel, to remain both professional and approachable at the same time. But I've also developed some existing skills, those include being able to respond quickly and accurately to any questions someone might have, I've been able to be better organised in my day-to-day duties within the company and to get along well with everyone I work with.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • This programme is without a doubt one of my most enjoyable experiences so far, not only is it an amazing opportunity to learn but to also meet new people, expand my network and learn new skills. Civica is without a doubt a brilliant company to work for, and when my programme ends I would love it if they kept me on as an employee.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme itself could do with some improvement for how organised it is, for example I'm meant to be doing my English, Maths and ICT at the same time as my main course, however I'm yet to even be contacted about these courses by the college providing them.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive as much support as I need from my employer, whether that be time I need to take to study, or to meet with my tutor, anything I want to do in regards to learning & development they support it without question. There is constantly availability to contact anyone within Civica to question what I can do to grow within the company and as a person.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When working towards my qualifications, I don't feel like I get much support from my training provider, outside of a visit every 4 weeks from my tutor however there are services available if I'm really struggling. From what I can tell while they're happy enough to provide me with the support I need, I get the feeling that they'd prefer if I could just coast on doing it on my own.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Without a doubt, working as an apprentice has made getting this qualification feel like a breeze, almost everything I do is done via a portfolio (aside from 3 or 4 tests) and every single module I have was hand selected by my line manager and I to make sure that whatever the module is, I do in my day-to-day work.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are multiple extra-curricular things to do at my workplace, some are official things, other are not but they are always open to everyone who wants to come along. For example not too long ago we had a pool competition, and even though I went 0-5 there was no judgement as it was all for fun. Once a month a group of us go see a movie that is paid for by work (we all vote on which movie we would like to see) and there are internal company events that happen often enough where food and drinks are provided.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Civica UK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Civica is without a doubt, the best company I have worked for so far, everyone here is genuinely open and welcoming, there are countless things you can do to expand your knowledge and to grow both as a person and within the company. There are multiple benefits that you actually use in your day-to-day life and there is without a doubt nothing that I can think of about this company that comes across in a negative light.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Civica UK?
  • Make sure that you be yourself and that you're open and honest, whenever you're in the interview remember to ask questions, they find that impressive and shows that you've came prepared. If you're lucky enough to get the position try to meet the people you'll be working with in your day-to-day life, try to get to know them better as they will most likely be extremely welcoming. Don't be afraid to ask questions once you've started, they don't expect you to know how to do everything perfectly.
