  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role I help to manage and maintain the BT network. This involves diagnosis of faults and working closely with other teams to ensure that there is no loss of service for customers across the day. I sometimes also travel to careers events to attract others to the role.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learn many new skills on a daily basis and am encouraged to learn. I am surrounded by people with years of experience in the business and this means I am always able to learn from others and augment the things I learn when at university, which I attend 2 days a week.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme as no two days are ever the same and I have made many friends, both in my apprentice year and in the day teams who are always there to lend support. I also enjoy the challenge as new faults can arise which allow me to learn.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well organised and we are always aware of what our schedule is like and what we are expected to be doing. I do not like surprises and so having a clear roadmap is highly beneficial to me and I feel that it helps me to manage my time more effectively.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive plenty of support from my employer and am able to take on projects or tasks whenever I please. My manager is always happy to help me with this. My degree is also fully paid for by BT, which is another added bonus. This makes me invested in doing well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive plenty of support and get study days to go along with my university days. This gives me time to fully absorb the content and make sure that I am doing everything I need to be doing to do the best that I possibly can. I value these days.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification helps me to understand what different aspects of a network mean and to understand just what my role entails and who is affects. This context is important and makes me feel even more invested and positive about my work. It also makes me interested in other business areas.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are sports days to get involved in and a huge number of clubs on the park that people can join should they choose to. Socials are arranged at the discretion of those involved but there are staff parties at christmas and we get £25 paid towards these by BT.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BT to a friend because it is a very exciting place to work with plenty of opportunity for growth and development. There is a wonderful environment and you really feel like you are a part of something special, and with the site being improved constantly it is a feel good area.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would advise others to be honest when applying and to show a genuine enthusiasm for all of the things BT are doing. After the recent rebrand BT's focus on educating the youth of Britain has come to the front, and this is something everyone should be passionate about, because that is the future of BT.
