  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I spend one day a week at a training provider where I learn skills that will improve my competence and ability in engineering. When at site I will engage in various different tasks in different sectors of the business. I will be given on the job training and mentoring and will be competent to complete the task alone in the future.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many skills I previously had, such as working in a team, communication and organisation. I have learnt many engineering specific skills such as becoming extremely competent in conducting soldering activities as well as fault finding, repair and maintenance of electronic products. I have also been given training opportunities to develop skills further.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am extremely enjoying this programme, I feel that I am properly valued as a member of staff and have been given ample opportunities to succeed, improve and learn. The programme caters towards any level of understanding as long as you have the commitment, drive and determination to learn and succeed.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well organised with a clear set time period over the first year of training at the training provider with set milestones and dates of reviews. When returning to site there is a clear structure set for each placement of work in different teams on site with start and end dates.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a large amount of support from the employer, to assist with any issues that may arise. Whether it is some misunderstandings with training providers or asking to receive some form of clarity about work or processes within the working environment. There is constant support for any and all occurrences.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is always a large amount of useful support from the training provider when attending days at college. The help coming when issues are arising with understanding of certain tasks or assignments. Help can come when the criteria for achieving certain parts of the qualification is not fully or properly understood.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification helps to develop key skills and understanding of elements within an electrical engineering environment, to the point where I will feel comfortable and competent to complete similar tasks without any assistance or supervision. I fell extremely happy with the level of training I have been given and am getting.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many charitable events, social groups and sporting groups to be a part of. there are regularly events that can be conducted on site during work as well as external events. There are sports activities that are conducted every evening after work by various different people that work on site.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel extremely welcomed and supported. I feel that I have a genuine importance and that my growth and development in this field is prioritised and important. I feel I have been taken on as a contributing team member and am given a multitude of opportunities to press for success.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Ensure that this is the right place for you and make sure to give every second of your time and work 100% of your effort. Effort is noticed and rewarded and you will achieve great things if you set your mind to it and have a genuine drive to succeed.
