  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as an apprentice is to support technicians is general maintenance of all equipment on my work section. Day to Day i maintain the baggage systems, responding to faults, maintaining conveyors, x-ray machines, and all other systems within south terminal baggage hall. Also to learn from technicians.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As I'm in the fourth and final year of my apprenticeship i have learned a lot. ive worked on complex x-ray machines, security systems, airfield lighting and loading bridges, baggage systems, huge generators, pumps, motors. and i have developed all new skills in these areas.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i really really enjoy the programme. i don't think there are any other apprenticeships i'm aware of that have such a variety of places and equipment that you all get a chance to work on and learn from

  • The programme is very well organised and structured and inclusive for all years and all apprentices.

  • Any training or any support or any help my employer assists in all matters. they are very accommodating and very supporting.

  • The college is very good

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • it gives me a much better theory understanding of electrical and electronic systems that can help me at work

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Gatwick will always go to careers events and has sponsored the Big Bang event for the last 2 years which all apprentices happily volunteer to go and help at. and we do many other events through the year too

  • 9a. Would you recommend Gatwick Airport to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because its a great place to work, with great people and a great place for learning. it will make you understand equipment you never thought you might have ever worked on. its a really great job.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Gatwick Airport?
  • Don't think you have to be super smart or have any experience in engineering. if you have a strong will to learn and work hard thats all you need.
