  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to be a better performance manager and how this effects the team in a posotive way. My communication skills have improved when giving out tasks as well as in a disciplinary fashion. I also have learnt a lot about having difficult discussions with people and how to set smart goals.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My trainer was crucial in my enjoyment, if i had a different trainer I do not feel like it would have been as enjoyable. The work was enjoyable and the 1 to 1 sessions were the best part of the experience. Its also more enjoyable learning while working so you understand the implications of what youre learning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme started 2 months late due to unforeseen circumstances, however it was then reorganised so that I would still finish my apprenticeship on time. After that each session was planned in ahead of time, with my sessions always being available online for me to check. A 12 month plan is also followed from the first sesison to the last.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Iceland as a whole offered little support in my learning, offering 3.5 of learning time a wek. The time given was often took solo as the manager was too busy to help and had little interest in what was being taught at the time by the trainer. However this may be due to how comfortable my manager knew I was with the learning material.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My trainer was always a phone call or email away should I need his help with anything, as well as having access to the regional manager of the company if I ever needed. If I wasnt in work the day of the session it was allowed to be changed to a remote visit to fit around me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I learnt a lot of new skills as well as developing ones I already had, such as my confidence, communication, delegation, empathy ect. As well as highlighting my own weaknesses early on in the programme really helped me be aware of what I had to improve, which made me perform better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Non available

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • The issue with working for Iceland and retail is working throughout bank holidays and only 2 days off a year, as new years day is not off the table for work. However the pay is good and the company itself is dedicated to help care for the environment, which is a big plus.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • Ensure you have an end goal in mind, with a clear way in how you intend to get there. There are avenues for progress in stores, always keep an open dialogue with your store manager if this is whst you want to do.
