Mechanical engineering apprentice Review

Day to day i complete knowledge questions, upload entries into my CPD and check emails. i also work in different teams on various projects machining components that are needed. this involves milling and turning as well as CAD do design products. i also complete reports and write ups on the machining and tasks i complete and upload it as part of my evidence.

I have learnt new skills including Turning, milling, CAD design as well as improved on hand skills such as filing and tapping threads. i have also improved my knowledge and terminology for different tools, equipment and methods. i have also learned more academic skills such as calculating pitch circle diameters and using reference books to assist me.

I found it a little confusing at first however i soon got into the rhythm and adjusted. i am enjoying the programme and the variety of work and jobs i am working on. the teams i am in are very helpful and supportive and i am very happy i am doing this apprenticeship.

I feel the programme is fairly well structured however there have been some issues and confusion during the introduction of the online learning assistant to upload evidence as i am waiting for some assessors to be shown how to use their side of it. the structure of placements are working well and are helping me develop my skills.

I receive any support i need, if i have any questions or require any help i just need to ask and my employers do their best to help in any way. this includes putting me through any training i may need to assist me in my role and on different projects.

My training provider gave me plenty of support and tuition during the first 18 months in the training school and now on placements my tutors still stop by to assist me with any issues or knowledge for my practical work and also for my nvq work including uploading evidence and cpd entries.

I feel it helps me very well as it is giving me the experience and knowledge needed to complete different tasks and produce different components using multiple machining operations. the qualification also allows me to perform better by improving my general knowledge and also helps me be part of more teams.

yes there are a lot of extra activities. i have joined the gym and play football in the week on the pitch at work. there are also networking social events for new starters to allow people to get to know others such as pub quizzes, paintballing and theme park trips.

it is a great place to work, there is a lot of good hospitality and a very calm and relaxed environment. the work is very interesting and different every time and the social events are very enjoyable. there is also a lot of opportunities in the company to move and progress in different departments to improve yourself.

when applying and going through the interview process, relax, honesty and calmness is important and don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. everyone on site is very helpful and happy to assist and share knowledge. you will find it enjoyable and a great place to work if you put the effort in and also put your name forward to volunteer for events as this gets your name out there in a good light.
