  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Burberry in the finance department. My daily tasks involve running a variety of reports and checks to ensure things are in place. I later communicate any unexpected items to my line manager and we discuss those. We do not really work on projects, we rather carry out our daily responsibilities.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned and improved a wide variety of generic skills from how to communicate professionally in the form of email and in person, attention to detail to stakeholder management. I also gained a good understanding of my job specific finance related aspects which are a great success for my development.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I overall do enjoy my job, my team, however, at times, the job can become monotone and repetitive. It was rather challenging in the beginning however you learn what you need to do very quickly and the development stops. I do enjoy the company culture though, everyone is very friendly.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Some structure within the company is present, but it is limited, for instance, everyone gets an induction session, explaining the most basic things to you, however, sometimes the support of the team members can be better, as sometimes it is hard to get time from my managers as they are very busy .

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My line manager is very supportive of me and me doing my training alongside my full-time role, however, some other managers sometimes do not seem to have a great deal of understanding of the programme that I am on and seem confused. My mentor is great and is very supportive of me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have a very limited interaction with my training provider, considering I never had any issues, and I never had to ask them any specific extra support. I would not be sure where to find their contact details right away and it would probably involve doing some research in order to actually get in touch.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like my job has made me learn much more than the actual studies, which do not seem very practical. Maybe it is a personal approach to how you learn but I much prefer learning on the job. I do feel like the theory we are learning makes sense though.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have regular company and department events. My team is very social so we have done things like ping pong nights, days in the park doing sports activities. Sometimes I do very long hours so I do not get to do things I enjoy when not working though and it is quite unfair.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Burberry to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I do feel like there are a lot of positive, the brand has got a great name and afterwards you can get a job anywhere you want. There are some issues but there are in any job. I think it is worth applying and attempting at getting this job but if not - plenty of other places.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Burberry?
  • The most important and difficult part is the face to face interview, which is also when most people fail. It is important to prepare for it by doing a lot of research about the company in general and the latest news about it in order to stand out in front of other candidates.
