  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I served as a Tech Apprentice within Consulting. I rotated through various work streams within my assigned project, but my work mostly consisted of Data Science-related tasks. I worked with Excel, Powerpoint, Leankit and not only(as part of the Agile project management initiative) to bring value into my team and actually help.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before the placement I have never worked with VBA before, whereas now I proud myself on two quite complex and useful macros I wrote for my team. At the same time, I had a very basic knowledge of Python before these 10 weeks. In the present, I am much better skilled.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am very happy with how the programme went. I learned way more than I ever imagined possible in just 10 weeks, I built a large network within and outside PwC, I developed and enhanced various skills, technical or otherwise. I learned how to behave professionally and gained more maturity and responsibility.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is generally well structured. The courses during the first year of University were not exactly tailored to a Data Scientist's profile, but that is understandable since the degree was a brand new addition in my generation. However, I was happy to find out that enhancements are already being implemented.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • PwC is very supportive. Ever since the beginning of our employment we were assigned a buddy, a mentor, a career coach and many many contacts. All these amazing people were always happy to answer any questions and help us in any way possible, even if the help consisted of redirecting us in a good direction.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • All the help from my training provider was just as good as the one from the employer. We were given plenty of contacts and information and everybody we were in touch with was always happy to help. All questions were answered promptly and further help was given when or if necessary.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Even though not all the theory is applied in real life, it is still very useful. It gives you a better understanding for not only this field, but also for future related ones. However, most of the stuff we were taught is bound to come up some day in the future.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are beyond plenty of activities to get involved in at work. Socials, parties, sporting events and not only. I truly appreciate how everybody is trying to make us feel involved by sending invites and making sure we are having a good time. It's like we are not just apprentices, but as if we had worked together for years!

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a very different company. It is a warm, friendly and nice environment that allows you to develop both professionally and personally. You have a lot to learn from a lot of people, there are plenty of opportunities and it is all flexible. People are happy to help, understanding and plainly, the BEST.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • It is the best decision you could ever make. Just look into what this firm has to offer and you will be convinced. My words or anybody else's for that matter will not count unless you see for yourself. Look into it, ask questions and get involved. It will be the best path for you.
