  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have been working with a manager over the past few weeks on a technology consulting team to deliver a collection of apps that facilitate capital programme reporting for local government. My responsibilities included building back end databases and front end platforms for this purpose using tools such as Microsoft PowerApps and Microsoft Azure.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to use tools such as PowerBI and QlikView to build business dashboards. I also developed my team work and communication skills whilst working on the tech degree apprenticeship summer project. I have learnt how to apply my technical skills to real business scenarios during the placement.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy getting the chance to experience regular student life during regular term time but also get valuable work experience during the summers and for my placement year. PwC is a great company to work at and all employees make you feel welcome regardless of their role and your role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This degree apprenticeship means that the year is split between University and working at PwC. It is well structured as we are do not have any work obligations from PwC during the term time and can concentrate on our University studies- giving us the full university experience. We work for PwC during the summer holidays as 10 week placements.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a great deal of support from my mananger. I can ask him for help and support whenever I need it and I can always trust that the advice I will receive will be of high quality. The team managing the apprenticeship programme are usually very helpful and quick to tackle any issues. I did, however, have some issues with my career coach which ended up being solved.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Lecturers are generally quite helpful as long as you have specific questions to ask. Some lecturers go above and beyond to help struggling students but others do not. Overall, I have had generally positive experiences with getting help from lecturers and tutors at university and these have made achieving my qualification much easier.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Through the computer science degree, although the specific knowledge we learn isn't always directly applicable to my role, I feel that I have developed many skills such as problem solving and logical thinking which I have been able to use in my role and which have made my rold much easier.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I don't particularly know of any extra curricular clubs that I can get involved in at work but there are plenty to get involved in at university. There are also occasional social events organised by team members at which allows interaction and socialising with other employees at the company

  • Yes

  • It is a large company in which there are so many opportunities to learn from a range of different people in many different areas of business and technology. PwC values every employee and provides a lot of flexibility within work which acts as great motivation. Also, everyone is very helpful and welcoming.Make s


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Make sure that you are aware of current news surrounding PwC and the areas it deals with. You should also ensure you know the values of PwC as they are very important to the firm. In interviews, the interviewer just wants to judge whether you are passionate about the subject area and if you will be a good fit for the company.
