  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I have to manage a team of people. The store has to be adequately stocked, correctly filled and available to all customers. My job Is also to ensure I can develop, coach and train the staff to be the best they can be. Becoming a brand ambassador and ensuring that the name of Iceland is given the best possible chance of being the best they can be

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot about my job role and how I should be behaving and how I should be performing in the store. It means that I can perform to a higher standard. I have learned how to communicate properly and how I should be delegating to the staff members to ensure the store is run successfully.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am finding the programme a little bit difficult and to be honest quite stressful due some difficulties but I can say that I'm quite good and quite happy with the programme so far and I am very much looking forward to finishing the apprenticeship hopefully with a pass.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised with each topic being in a specific unit online it makes it very easy for me to access the apprenticeships learning and complete all of the work. The apprenticeship is all online and all of my work is very well organised, I would say it is very well out together.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer initially did not give me any support and it is one of the reasons why I am so stressed out about the apprenticeship. My current manager has been very helpful and very supportive in helping me with my apprentice and making sure that I get all of the time and support I need.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My old training provider was helpful and always there if I didnt know something or was unsure of anything. My new training provider has helped me a lot already Including helping me understand more about my apprenticeship and helping me to catch up and be at the progression I need to be.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel like that qualification will give me everything I need to be a competent supervisor and help me perform to a much higher level and of a much higher ability than if I didnt actually do the apprenticeship. I definitely think the apprenticeship is helping me in this regard.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are monthly pub meets but as far as I know there are not many events that I can attend which I believe would be relevant to the course. There are events up and down the country but it would be difficult for me to attend most of them which means the availability is not there for me.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe that the work Iceland does in protecting the environment and becoming environmentally friendly is at the forefront of retail. I think that a lot of Iceland's products are of a very high standard af their prices for branded products are very reasonable. I also love the fact that they are so supportive to their staff members and are always happy to celebrate success.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • If I had a friend who wanted to apply to Iceland then I would advise them to ensure their C.V is up to date and relevant to ensure they have the best chance of succeeding in their application because Iceland is a great company to work for and I believe they would need to ensure they give themselves the best opportunity to get the job.
