  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Maintaining engineering standards of steel rolling mills and keeping the availability up to ensure a direct route without fail to the end customer of a high quality product.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • 100% learnt new skills as well as developing skills I already had. The apprenticeship programme also built a level of confidence within myself to be able to achieve anything.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I loved my apprenticeship, I have made life long friends as well as honing skills I already had as well as building a new skill set which will stay with me throughout my working career

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very, like building a house, you work from the bottom up, the basics were fundamentally drilled in to us and then that gives a good understanding the further your learning goes. Not once did I feel out of my depth.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A huge amount, as long as you were putting the effort in yourself. No one would be left to stuggle as long as they would give their best. That is the best approach in my opinion

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Quite a lot, nothing was too much trouble. Even allowing you to swap shifts if you had an exam in college/uni to be able to allow you to prepare as best as possible. Very much a human element to the training scheme which can be missed elsewhere.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It has made me who I am today by providing a structured approach to not only my learning but my life. An apprenticeship teaches life skills as well as work skills.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • A huge amount, TATA provide community support as well as sponsors. They have also allowed myself extra time off when I have been competing internationally in my personal sport of target shooting. They didn’t have to do that.

    10/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Tata Steel to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • TATA May have bad press about the uncertainty of its future however I owe everything I have achieved in my working life and partly personal developement to TATA. I now have a career and skills which I owe them a lot for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tata Steel?
  • Research the job roles and see which one suits you. There are many opportunities within TATA which is amazing! A very personal approach from such a big organisation
