  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role can vary depending what project I am on, but as a consultant it means assisting clients to determine their business issues and recommend solutions to drive business value. I use in-depth consulting skills and business knowledge aligned to business objectives, processes, measurements and tools to analyze my clients business issues, formulate hypotheses and test conclusions to determine appropriate solutions.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I absolutley love my programme, it's exactly the thing I was looking for! I get a degree at the end of it, as well as 3 years work experience in the career path I want to go into. Everyone is so friendly and you have the oppourtunity to meet so many different people. I would say so far it is definitley exceeding my expectations and it is such a diverse company to work for.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall the programme is quite well organised both from a company perspective and the university perspective. However, sometimes it can become a bit unstructured and people are unsure of who is meant to be doing what or when, but it is very minor so I wouldn't say it affects the programme massivly overall.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • So much support! Especially as someone who suffers with my health, the support has been incredible and I can't fault it. As I said earlier, the amount of training we recieve is also a big support blanket and as everyone is so friendly you have so many peers that you can go to for additional support if ever needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe the university side of the course could be slightly improved as it is very independent and sometimes unorganised which makes you feel as though there is a lack of support, as you only attend once a week. Overall, it has been fine so far and I do enjoy it, but there is just a lack of communication between the university and IBM.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that it is a massive help as it allows me to have exampes of real life applications and exploring the theory side of a business world still whilst working in it allows me to have a better understanding of my role and believe that it is a big help that I am doing both alongside eachother at the same time.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are so many things to get involved with at work such as communities, teams and there are always a lot of social events going on so it's definitley good in that sense. There is also a lot of volunteering oppourtunities avaliable to share your exepriences with other schools, etc.

  • 9a. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a great company to work for with great benefits and has already allowed me to gain so much valuabke experience that will definitley help me further on in my career in life. There are so many oppourtunities to travel and learn I think it would be silly not to say I would recommend it!!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to IBM?
  • I would say make sure you do the relevant research and prepare well for any interviews or assessment centers to make sure it is definitely the path that you want to go down in life, and also so that you can give yourself the best chance at succeeding with your applications. Lastly, I would say don’t panic either as it’s not as scary as you first initially might think!
