Detailing connections for steel structures. We model steel beams, columns and connections for large structures such as shopping centres, stadiums, airports, office blocks and other large infrastructure.
I gained extensive knowledge of the structural steel industry through involvement in real life jobs from day 1.I developed my ability to communicate and network with colleagues, clients and other companies that we worked with. I have gained a BTEC and a HNC in construction and the built environment.
it has been so insightful to get a real feel for working life, meeting new people within the industry who have helped and guided me along my journey, i have had to opportunity to do things and attend events that I would otherwise not had the chance to experience.
From the start of the programme there is a clear year by year plan put in place with competencies and milestones to hit for every year, if there is any trouble with meeting the end of year targets there is a large support network to rely on to get you back on track.
we have decided employee's and mentors to support us with our work and studies, we receive a day dedicated to our studies every week to help with work/life balances. we also have former apprentices who have been in our shoes to help and advice us where needed.
we have mentors within our office environment, another mentor with our training provider and our tutor in our college/uni who form a network where is access is always available if needed.
the qualification i study enables me to understand the theory behind the practical work i do, this allows me to have a better perspective of what works and what won't work when I'm going into a new project.
