engineer apprentice Review

First thing we do in our first year is get buddied up with an engineer and learn what we can from them by completing tasks with them such as maintenance on aircraft, this includes removing parts checking they are ok and replacing them if needs be as well as getting a good education at the same time

I have learnt how to lock wire and this is a very important skill in the industry as it stops bolts from becoming loose that are vital for the aircraft to work correctly. I have also learnt to work with various different people of all backgrounds and ages and worked well

I enjoy my programme enough for me to stay in my job. I haven’t had an apprenticeship before but with this one i find time literally goes so quickly as I enjoy what I am doing. I like being tested and I like having a bit of pressure to work with

My programme is structured well with regular Skype calls to my college teachers to ensure I am getting on well with the work and completing it properly. I also feel that there is a good balance between practical and theory and I have enjoyed my time so far in my scheme

I mainly get most of my support from my peers who I am buddied with as they spend most their time with me and see me most often so they are able to tell me my strengths and weaknesses. I find that if I have questions they are answered and I can be shown how to do things I am unsure of

I get a good amount of support from my training provider with regular Skype calls and emails to check how I am progressing: I feel that I get taught a lot in short lessons and I have a good understanding because of my training provider and the way they are training me

I feel that I get taught relevant things and I have a lot to learn therefore having the time in the classroom breaks it down and can be a refreshment and a different view of learning new things. I feel that my job is good however it can be really busy

There are probably some activities to get involved in how ever I have only been involved in one or two and that was at the very start. We went kayaking and this was to build Our team moral and give us a good boost at working well with the others

I feel like the company is a good place to work because they give me a lot. They have invested a lot into me and my scheme and trust me to do well. I feel like they have given me a good opportunity and I feel like after my apprenticeship it will be good

Apply yourself well to your gcse and try your best to get good results. They hardly take on any apprentices so when applying you will want to stand out. It is good practice to revise for any tests they give you and always get involved with the team bonding activities
