  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage my store when the store manager is out, I control a team of 20, I train them and I performance manage them. I have to be aware of the store kpis and make sure the store is working towards our targets and over all aiming for profitability.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my people management skills, and I feel I know have a better understanding of performance management. I am feeling more confident with the financial side of the business- and looking at the bigger picture as I have been more of a people focused manager in my career.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed learning new things, but also developing the information I already know. I enjoy my visits with my lifetime trainer and have found her to be accommodating to my needs.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We have scheduled visits and if I have had to change any dates and times there has been no issue, I am left to do independent study and in the visits am able to discuss what I have learned and have clarification on any points I am stuck on.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Mamas and Papas, allow me time to do the work in store hours if need be and I have contact with different departments in the company so if I need to get information for my activities they are available to help me. Everyone has been so helpful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], is available when I need her, she was able to work my training around a period of time I was out of work due to illness so I could continue to benefit from the training. She is very encouraging and has been there if I have needed her for advice/ help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is helping to build my confidence as a manager and is helping to put me in a position where I feel I could take the next step to being a store manager.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The company is like a family, when I have needed support they have been there for me. My store manager and area manager have helped me develop and progress and have been the ones to help me see my abilities so I can keep moving forward.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mamas and Papas?
  • Its not just retail- we are customer focused, you have to have the desire to go above and beyond all the time. Everyone supports each other and build each other up, we are a family.
