  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my first year my main roles include attending college pretty much full time. I have a nice mix of theory and practical lessons where I learn skills relevant to my job. I also get 2 days work experience in the work place where I assist other engineers and help out

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As my apprenticeship goes on I continuously learn new skills and develop existing skills. I have developed my confidence and concentration skills and find it easier to be myself in the work place. I also find that I have gained hands on experience where I have had to assemble and disassemble

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really really enjoy my programme, it’s exciting to learn new things and work towards qualifications at the same time as earning money and progressing my own skills. I feel that engineering is a challenge that motivates me into getting involved and keeps my brain active throughout my time in the workplace

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As easy as I find my apprenticeship I feel my training provider helps as they make it more organised and give it a structure. They talk to both parties including college and the work place therefore with that communication they both are on the same page and understand where I am with everything

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Outside of work a lot of the people play golf with eAchother which is organised between ourselves this is a good hobby as it gives us a little to talk about and have a bit of fun outside of the work place. I enjoy a little challenge and a bit of banter

  • 9a. Would you recommend Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems (UK) Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Knorr bremse is a well organised company and they have a lot of opportunities especially for young apprentices like myself. They work well with other big companies and offer a lot of options for their apprentices. It’s also a fun job if you like assembling as well as being challenged

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems (UK) Ltd?
  • I’m always nervous when it comes to interviews therefor I would suggest being calm and relaxed before hand in order to do well. I find it easier by preparing questions and answers that I am likely to be asked and this gives me more knowledge and confidence on answering questions
