My role as a first year apprentice involves going to college five days a week and studying to gain the relevant qualifications. Day to day varies depending on my time table I have some practical lessons and some theory and have to partake in assessments to show how much I learn
Since I started my apprenticeship my approach has gained myself knowledge as well as developing my skills including my organisation skill, team work skills, focusing skills and even communication skills. I have learnt how to use various tools and have increased my knowledge on train parts as well as other things relevant.
I really enjoy my programme I feel at some points it can be challenging however if it wasn’t I would get bored. I feel that my apprenticeship is good as I get paid well and learn a lot of useful things. I also enjoy working with others and helping them.
My programme so far has been very structured. My time table allows for me to fit a lot of work into a day and even a week. I feel like terms go by quickly and I never get bored. My lessons are always planned well and never over run which is good
I received a lot of support from my employer from the start of my apprenticeship which included an inductions week meeting other apprentices and loads of other meetings with managers that could help me right from the start. I always have someone to go to if I ever need help
The support I receive from my training provider when working towards my qualifications is regular and helpful. They offer 3monthly reviews checking up on my and showing me my targets and things I can improve on. I feel like the college also communicate with them and suggest what I can improve on
Learning my qualification through my provider helps my job as they target specific modules that I need in order to do my job well. They teach me about things specifically relevant to my job. Also it is useful to understand how things work in order to fix them which my training provider teach me
As an apprentice there hasn’t been any networking events or professional events or activities yet as I am at college full time and not really at work often. I feel that there would or could be thou as everyone in the work place talks about evenings they’ve shared
Yes
I would recommend hitachi as It is a great place to work. The pay is really good for an apprentice and goes up often, my tutors are polite and helpful and want me to do well and my company are supportive and members of the staff are friendly and helpful
If I was applying for hitachi again I would prepare answers for typical interview questions I wouldn’t be late for my interview and I would recommend learning a little bit about the company history and future targets. I would also prepare answers for questions on what I could do for the company
