Work Experience Student Review

Throughout the course of the event, I was able to transfer between departments conducting various tasks. These included general research, forming lease reports and responding to hypothetical situations that law firms may encounter. This involved considerable interaction with members of the department and meant I was able to develop my communication skills during the placement.

The programme has enabled me to extend and develop my skills. For instance, the IT Training has increased my capability of using technology whilst performing research tasks has improved my analytical skills. On a personal level, the scheme has elevated my ability to interact and communicate as I was able to meet new peers through the programme, a skill I will be able to transfer to any situation.

The experience has been thoroughly enjoyable and memorable as I was able to develop my skills in a welcoming environment. The combination of independance and teamwork has provided an extremely interesting programme where I have looked forward to attending. This experience has definitely met my expectations.

During my time here I have felt very valued by Pinsent Masons as an extension of the welcome I have recieved from members of the company. This was particularly evident when I was invited to co-operate in genuine project and meant that my presnce was greeted and valued. Additionally I felt more inclusive as the work experience students comprised of 5 people so I was able to get involved in a greater workload as opposed to if there were more people.

The scheme was relatively well organised in the respect that timings were outlined and appointments were prompt. However at certain times I had no workload after completion of previous tasks and I would therefore reccomend a greater provision of tasks to further my skills.

Support was easily accessible with all staff members offering their assistance if necessary. The appointing of trainees with a student also meant that I understood my first point of call to address any queries I may have. The general attitude was very pleasant and I have felt appropriately supported during my week here.

In regards to those who recruited me, the situation never arose for me to rely on their support as the application process went smoothly. However if they were to reflect the staff I encountered in person I'm sure they would have been of great support in the occasion I would need their help.

This experience has been extremely rewarding on both a personal and professional sense from the informative presentations, meeting new peers to working in a professional environment. Therefore I would definitely reccomend this scheme for both those interested and not interested in law as one can learn so many new skills in a wonderful environment.

Applicants must be willing to invest time and effort when applying as the opportunity to work at the firm will prove greatly beneficial for the future regardless of whether they wish to pursue law or not simply because of the great skills that can be developed.
