  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Initially during my apprenticeship I was involved with the day-to-day tasks involved with a technical retail consultant. This role would include implementing and configuration merchandise planning software and enterprise resource planning software. In this role I was responsible for designing, testing and documenting software implementations across several projects in the UK. With my company, I was able to move around multiple project roles and get a true feel of the variety of teams and work functions involved within a software life cycle. I now work as a Cybersecurity consultant which my company supported, in terms of my move into the team. This brings a lot of skill and expertise from my previous role. but now its focused on Identity and Access Management.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've developed many skills over the course of my degree apprenticeship. Given that you come into the apprenticeship with little work experience, the world is your oyster with Capgemini. I am certified across several professional qualifications, all of which were provided by the software vendors we work with. Important industry skills such as technical languages applicable to my role; SQL, TSQL, Java, HTML, C++ and so on. Other skills include how to manage project finances, meeting GDPR standards with all work completed and being a compelling consultant are some of the main skills I have picked up.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed every moment of my programme, as the benefits of having a paid degree apprenticeship together with supportive progression, was too good to pass up. Capgemini looked after me whilst on the programme and continue to do so, despite leaving that community. There is nothing negative I can say about the programme, it was well-structured, tailored to our needs and was simply an enjoyable chapter of my life and career.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised and structured, as from day one you understand the scope of your learning, the paths you can take and the support that is there to ensure you're successful. By having such a structured programme encourages you to push forward without the worry of becoming lost in an overwhelming amount of work, which is a must for the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive optimum levels of support, but at the same time its a two-way street. Yes the company will support your progression and your career ambitions, but at the same time you need to ensure you're hitting your targets and fulfilling your side of the agreement. From day one, I knew what I wanted to become and made that clear at every step of the way with my employer. Of which resulted in a successful start to my career and a great network to walk away with.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider was second to none, there were times that standards may have slipped at times but in general, nothing negative came about it. All in all, the provider was fully committed to the success of myself and my fellow student peers, in that they were always there for out of ours support and would always ensure you were comfortable with the tasks and deadlines given. I enjoyed working with the provider to achieve my qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification and the way in which it was taught/structured, allowed for a clear two-way understanding between work and study. By this I mean that the content that was covered during my studies, could be directly applied to the work I was doing with my employer (vice-versa). This allowed both streams of work to receive optimum quality of work from myself and peers.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I always ensure I am kept busy outside of the workplace, whether that is through work socials at the end of the week, charity events or sporting activities. Whilst maintaining a healthy work lifestyle, its also just important to have a strong social life that encourages a work/life balance. My employer always encourage such balance and support any extra-curricular activity their employees would like to become involved in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Capgemini to friends and family, because I know first hand the level of trust, level of commitment and support that they provide to their employees. There are many opportunities to grow both personally and from a career perspective with the company, which can be said for most. What sets Capgemini apart from others in the industry, is the simple fact that its less corporate and more about taking care of the people instead of driving results.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • Keeping your career path clear when applying to Capgemini and showing a passion for business and IT are a must. You want to demonstrate you are capable with leading your own career, but having a company like Capgemini to support you along the way. Being passionate also shows Capgemini that you relate to why Capgemini exist in the first place. You need to demonstrate your competence in an array of areas, or at least know where you would want to be and how you'd intend to get there.
