  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Your role can change depending on what project you're on. I've been on various projects since I started, one where I have worked with Amazon Web Services to create AWS Lambdas in order to automate and run code. Where I used AWS CloudFormation templates to provision resources for this. In my last project I used Red Hat Ansible scripts to automate the configuration of AWS EC2 nodes and Jenkins to automate the Ansible playbooks.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new skills starting with the 4 week induction and training in web development when I started the apprenticeship, where I learnt HTML 5, CSS and Javascript. At university I learnt Java programming. During my projects I learnt the basics of the python programming language, Ansible, Jenkins, Amazon Web Services in which I became an AWS Certified Developer whilst on my first project through training and the exam.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme as It allows me to gain new skills through on the job training and experience as well as gain a degree in Digital and Technology Solutions. It's a good opportunity to enter the technology industry, especially if you do not have experience of the industry or don't come from a technology background but have an interest in technology.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme started with a four week induction which was followed by starting and attending the University of East London for two weeks in block and then attending on Mondays after that. We were allocated our first projects to help get us started, after that you can look for new projects using your network or roles on the internal system. The programme is well organised and support is there when needed for example we have a career counsellor that you can go to for career progression advice.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a good support system. When on a project there are people to assist you where possible when you need help. When trying to find a role there is your Talent Fulfilment Specialist who can try to help you get on new projects and you can use your network to find projects too. It's also helpful to have a career counsellor to go to for career advice.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The University of East London provide lectures where we attend university most Mondays and some modules are taught in a two week block. Information is available through the University's internal Moodle system where you can find the lecture and study materials as well as study and exam timetables. Lecturers are helpful when you need help you can reach out to them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have learnt a lot at university however some of this is not relevant. For example I have learnt Java programming at university but I have not yet used Java on a project role I have used python instead. Which has not been taught at university so some of what you learn at university may not relevant depending on the requirements of your project in your job role. It is good to gain knowledge of different programming languages though.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are opportunities to get involved in extra-curricular activities at work where you can join Accenture sports teams, clubs or societies and meet new people. The activities are not just limited to this, there are also networking events where you can meet other people working in Accenture. There is also the annual Christmas party and various social events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Accenture is a good company to work for. You get the opportunity to gain experience of working in technology whilst getting paid a salary and gaining a degree without the burden of a university debt. The company is large so there are a range of clients and varied projects you can work on and you get to learn and use the latest technologies.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • Apply if you're interested in technology and want to pursue a career in technology. You can find out more about Accenture through their website where they have information about their company, the apprenticeships and some client case studies to give you an idea of what kind of work they do. The recruitment process can take time as there was the application, online tests, face-to-face interview and the assessment day. However my advice would be to do your research , show your interest in technology and be yourself.
