Test Analyst Review

I am currently working as a Quality Assurance Engineer on client site, but my official job title is still a Test Analyst. 1. Bridging the communication gap between client and T&RS. 2. Allowing testing to be done earlier (shift left approach). 3. Providing a list of all known bugs / defects to T&RS to reduce duplication. 4. Review System Test Cases and highlight gaps. 5. Share any outstanding System Test defects with SIT team in advance, so they don’t pick up integration testing around those areas. 6. Participate in Scrum of Scrums/Forward Looks and other sprint ceremonies within individual DG’s. 7. Participate in System Test Demos (we have a show and tell and include T&RS) and can view/capture Test Evidence and highlight gaps. Can get SIT team in Telford involved on Skype if necessary. 8. Identify gaps at feature level and highlight to Scrum Master to discuss with the BA’s. 9. Highlight which features will be ready for integration testing, based on delivery plans of individual delivery groups. 10. Chases Delivery Group Scrum Master for defect fix/investigation based on priority of defects for ongoing SIT execution. Can also get comms going between teams if required to track until defect closure.

I have learnt a lot of new skills such as management, exporting from JIRA into a PDF format, and more admin / management tasks, as the QA role is more of a management role than a testing role. I have developed existing skills such as communication, customer engagement, JIRA, Confluence, technical and non-technical.

I somewhat enjoy the programme. I feel like with a lot going on outside of my work life, it is often very difficult to manage a full time job as well as a degree. But that is mainly just my situation, as I have moved house, getting married, and more personal life events.

This again, is somewhat organised. I find that most modules are well thought out, given in advance and offered a lot of help, however, some modules are not that great, very rushed / not known well enough by the lecturer. I have found this in a few, hence why I said somewhat organised.

We get study days to do our university work outside of our daily jobs, but I do feel like we should be focusing on our university work a bit more. I know that my manager will happily let me have time to do my uni work if I have absolutely nothing to do, but VERY rarely does this happen, especially now as I'm going up the ladder in terms of my career.

We get lectures in the evenings, where we can ask Questions and are often provided with answers. We are told that we can email them if ever we have any more questions, so I do feel like the support is adequate. Often what they don't realise is that we don't really get time during our working day to do uni work.

I don't really feel like it helps with my role. I have taken the business route now, and I am finding more benefit whilst I am in the Quality Assurance role, but before that it was very limited. I found that the degree would benefit more of a Dev Ops role better.

Yes, often there are curry and quiz nights that we can join, the gym is always open (which is excellent). However, I find personally, my life is a bit too hectic out of work to join in with these extra curricular activities. When I'm a bit more free I would love to join them

It's a great company, with great ethics. The people and their well being are always prioritised, which you often don't find in a company. The managers are fair, and will treat you with respect and trust providing you give it too. All in all, a great company that I love working for.
