  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My general duties include day to day interactions with SAP including invoice processing, daily banking and helping suppliers with any queries they may have. I also complete bank reconciliations for ten of our bank accounts making sure that our banking figures are correct. I also have the responsibility of making weekly payments to our suppliers and monthly payments in relation to our payroll manager.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt a whole range on new skills during my apprenticeship as I had no previous experience. I've learnt how invoice processing works not only the basics but also how the coding works in the background. I've also learnt how bank reconciling works and have been developing this skill over the last year. Another skill learnt is the skill of dealing with supplier queries be it via email or the telephone. I've learnt how to respond in a professional manner and how to concisely convey the information they are looking for.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is well structured on the college side through term timetables consisting of learning, revision and exam weeks clearly marked down with specific dates. Also there are catch up meeting where they travel to my office to speak about how my work is going alongside the learning. On my works side they also help me a lot during the first phase in setting up the apprenticeship with the college and making sure that everything is going ok and I'm happy with what I am getting out of the qualification.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get all the support that I require at any given time. I have frequent meetings and also just casual chats about how things are going and if I need any additional help with college work or my general work. They are more than happy to help me with any topics that I'm struggling with as there are plenty of people who are more than qualified to give me a helping hand.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider is more than happy to mark and give feedback on any questions I may have regarding college work. Also they are happy to talk about any work issues I may come across if I feel more comfortable talking to them. During my lessons the tutor goes through everything at a pace everyone can follow and makes sure that all learners are following the work set.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I am learning a lot of financial skills that I don't necessarily do on a day to day basis at work. I believe this helps me perform better because I am understanding all aspects of the work that I'm doing and also how it can affect other members of our finance team. A specific example would be where I'm on the accounts payable side of finance I don't see the side of our accounts receivable and what they have to do daily. However through my qualification I have learnt the different aspects of this role and I now have a broader amount of knowledge in the department.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a designated sports and social club who frequently put on extra-curricular activities for all members of staff. For example I join in the weekly football club that runs at a local school near our office. There are also yearly summer and Christmas parties aimed at celebrating our work as a whole which is always great fun.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • This is a great company who offer lots of very good benefits to their employees. The working environment is good and there are lots of friendly people who make you feel welcome from the very first day you arrive. There are numerous schemes that the company offer for example the pension scheme and also the child care scheme aimed at making like just that little bit easier for their employees.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to ASM Assembly Systems?
  • I would suggest making sure you know some things about the company in order to make a good professional impression. But also being your self is a key aspect and to try and not be nervous when in the interview stage. If you are confident in your replies to questions and sell yourself well then this will give you a much better chance of joining this very good company.
