  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In the workplace my job roll as of now is learning as many processes on a varietly of stations along the assembly line. This current year I am doing four days at college, studying level 3 manufacturing, which involves written assingnments and practial workshop activities, the remaining day i am at work. during college breaks I am required to be in work the days the college is closed.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • before this year I had previously studied mechanical eginering, already having a vast amount of knowlege on workshop activities, mainly machining, but during this year Ihave learned some new skills such as welding and circuit building, along with developing skills in the workshop with the first year of the course relying on hand fitting.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far I have engoyed the programme alot, due to me coming from an engineering background i think i have settled in to college and work very well, along with meeting new people who are on the same course and will who I will be with for the remainder of the apprenticeship also learning new skills in the workplace and college.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • On the days I am at college the structure had not been the best compared to work. during the first couple of months of college we weren't very clear on what we were doing in terms of assingments but this got better later in the year until the questions were changed and the introduction of 'OneFile',whereas at work I am clear on what there is to do and my role in the workplace.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • When at work i get a great deal of support from my apprentice coach and my assigned process leader. if there are any issues I have in the workplace I can come to one of these people for help or advice on the matter. I am also supported by the people I work with on the stations who are training me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At college we get a fair amount of support from our class tutors and if there is need for further support there is help if required. every so often we have a one to one with the student tutor to trach out progress and adress any issues we have with college.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel as that what we have been learning this year has been based alot around mechanical engineering with the use of the machine and welding workshops which is very different to the tasks which we take part in at work with little to no opertunity to use the knowledge we gain from college at work as they are different work environments.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • apart from overtime at work there are other opertunities and events that we have acces to such as family days in the summer to bring friends and family to, or opertunitys to go into schools in the local area to premote the apprenctiship scheme to possible future apprentices and talk about our experiences so far.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • i would recommend the BMW group to a friend as it is such a big company with alot of contact which will open up alot of opertunities along the line especially for younger students who are eager to get into a good job with a positive future as early in their carrer as possible.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • one of the main tips i would give to a new student applying for a role with the BMS Group is to ask questions and to get to know people as early as possible rather than later as this can help to get you noticed and get your name around.
